| Situation | ❝It makes parents weep, it makes children weep. Who could be happy? ❞ Miyono Azuma was 24 years old at the time of the atomic bombing. She was exposed to the bombing at the foot of the Kanda Bridge in Ushita-machi, about 2.5 kilometers from the hypocenter. She returned home to search for her three-month-old daughter under the eaves of the house. Although the baby had been blown by the blast, she was safe and uninjured. She noticed that she was seriously injured, with burns over half of her body. She says that they evacuated to an air raid shelter as fires spread all around them. Her husband, who avoided direct exposure to the bombing, took her to her parents' home in Shobara. She managed to survive there, while being cared for by her family. |
