"What can I do to forget it? I probably have to die."
Sadae Oda was 20 years old back then.
She worked as a conductor for the Hiroshima Railway Bureau between Hiroshima and Miyoshi.
In her dormitory room in Miyoshi, she felt a bright flash and heard a loud noise.
After rushing to the station, she saw injured people, loaded even in the freight car, being pulled off the train with hoes.
The next morning, she worked on a train heading to Hiroshima, and walked from Yaga Station into Hiroshima.
What she saw were rails bent by the heat, and the emptied city.
She says, "We must not have disputes. Instead of worrying about who wins or loses, we should focus on discussion and compromise." |
