Mr. Akito Kono was 18 years old at that time. He was exposed to the A-bombing in Nagatsuka, Gion-cho, a place approximately 4.1 kilometers from the hypocenter.
Mr. Kono, who was mobilized to the Army Provisions Depot, was exposed to the A-bombing, and was blown 4.5 meters ahead by a tremendous blast at his workplace in Nagatsuka.
According to him, he still cannot forget that he passed by his first love without speaking to her on his way home in Ushita-machi.
Based on his negative stance toward the war and his unwillingness to join the army through its conscription examination, Mr. Kono managed to evade military service by answering “I can’t see” in an eyesight test on purpose.
He says, “If there is love, war will not break out.” |
