Situation |
He was three years old when he lost his hearing and, at the time of the bombing, he was a third-year student at the Primary School of the Hiroshima School for the Deaf. During an air raid on Etajima Island in July 1945, he couldn't hear the air-raid alarm siren and almost failed to escape. On August 6, he remembers feeling an intense bomb blast and impact, after which he saw a mushroom cloud rise above Hiroshima. That evening, there was an endless procession of injured and burn-victims being loaded onto boats, and that night he could see Hiroshima burning like a deep red sea of flame.
