We had been evacuated to Haji in Yachiyocho in order for my hospitalized mother to receive care for tuberculosis. While going to the hospital that morning, I heard a loud noise and then saw an ominous mushroom cloud surging up on the other side of the mountains. The following day, I went into Hiroshima City to look for my younger brother. Although my parents' home in Inarimachi had burnt down, I was able to find my brother and we both returned to where we had been evacuated. Upon arriving there, we were informed that our mother had passed away, giving both of us a great shock. |
