Situation Mr. Okazaki was a student at Municipal Technical School No. 1 at the time, and was in front of Hijiyama Elementary School on his way to school when the atomic bomb was dropped. He lost his younger brother, who was in Koami-cho, in the blast. His parents and younger sister, who were in the country in Takata-gun, were safe. In 1974, he painted a picture of the damage caused by the bomb, as one citizen’s record of the atomic bombing.
