34 years old at the time.She was in Tsurumi-cho, 1.5km from the hypocenter, at the time of the bombing. Just when she was about to start building demolition work in Tsurumi-cho, she felt a piercing flash of light from behind, and suffered major burns to her back. After the war, she worked as a director of Hiroshima Prefecture Confederation of A- and H-Bomb Sufferers’ Associations since its inception, and was one of the three representative members of Japan Confederation of A- and H-Bomb Sufferers’ Associations. A pioneer of the peace movement, she had appealed for the abolition of nuclear weapons as a representative of a-bomb survivors at the United Nations Disarmament Session. |
