44 years old at the time.Mr. Moritaki was at the shipyard 4.1km from the hypocenter when the bomb was dropped. He continued to participate in sit-ins in Peace Park 87 years old, whenever nuclear tests are conducted. On August 6, 1945, Mr. Moritaki, who was an instructor of the mobilized students who were working at the shipyard, was writing his diary in the shipyard classroom when he saw a bluish-white flash of light. Shards of broken glass pierced his right eye and he lost the sight of that eye. After the war he taught ethics at Hiroshima University, and at the same time has devoted himself to peace activities. |
