Description | Memories of the Minami-ohashi Bridge area Drawn by Toshiko Sakae (Notes from the artist) Korean people lived in the area west of the bridge. Every day they turned straw bags upside down and beat them with both hands. Grains of rice would fall out and form a fairly large pile. We went to their house for a meal together with some wives who lived in the neighborhood. They laid out a huge feast, with tasty small mochi rice cakes and more. It was a lively, fun gathering. I do not know what happened to that Korean family -- whether they are alive or lost their lives in the atomic bombing. |
