Description | Hiroshima Army Ordnance Supply Depot <Notes from the artist> From Shukkeien Garden, the army weapons facility could be seen on the other side of the castle moat. Even today I can still recall the sentries that patrolled it day and night from atop the embankment where a castle wall once stood. The moat was filled with the bright green leaves of lotus plants with an occasional colorful blossom rising above the leaves. Before long, they would go to fruit and we'd be able to harvest their roots. Then, it would be summer and time to catch dragonflies and enjoy the cool evening air. 1910 Drawn by Tadao Sejima |
