Description | Situation where a brother died in the A-bombing Drawn by Hideo Kimura August 1945 1,100m from the hypocenter Hirose Elementary School Hirose-kita-machi The artist's elder brother, Yutaka Kimura (then, 18), was exposed to the bomb at Hirose Elementary School. His father and elder sister looked for him for days at several first-aid stations. However, they could not find Yutaka until they found a dead body lying toward the door in the burned-out ruins of Hirose Elementary School auditorium, which they decided would be the last place they look. Although the body was reduced only to the head and torso, it was identified as that of Yutaka with his name carved on the belt buckle. |
