Description | Severely injured younger brother and sister Drawn by Yoshiko Fukada Yoshiko Iwamoto (maiden name; then, 15) was exposed with her mother Misano, younger sister Akiko and younger brother Toshiharu, when they were at home in Higashi-kaniya-cho, about 2,700 meters from the hypocenter. Their house was severely damaged with Akiko and Toshiharu suffering serious facial injuries. Afraid that her brother and sister might die if they didn’t receive immediate medical attention, Yoshiko clutched them desperately to her chest and took them to the nearby Onaga Elementary School, and afterwards to the Japan Steel Works where they received basic medical care but nonetheless Toshiharu passed away on September 29. |
