Description Tremendous flames rose from the Takanobashi district. Many people found their way to the Red Cross Hospital hoping to receive treatment, only to be bewildered and disappointed. The reinforced-concrete main building of the hospital was badly damaged and all the wooden structures burned down. Sixty-nine hospital personnel were dead. The medicines quickly ran out on the people streaming in, but a small team of doctors and nurses working together provided emergency treatment.
