Description | People fleeing toward the mountain August 6, 1945 3,000 m from the hypocenter Ushita-machi Drawn by Kochi Masako (16 at time of bombing, 73 at time of drawing) Crying and shouting, people in miserable conditions were walking toward the mountain. We were walking, caring for and helping each other. Suddenly, there was a loud sound between a blast and thunder. Shocked and frightened, we got into the nearest stream and stayed still clinging to the side. A man who seemed to be a temple priest was shaking carrying a Buddhist statue on his back.
