Description | People with nowhere to go leapt into the cistern 250 m from the hypocenter, in what is now Peace Park (Nakajima-cho) August 7, 1945 Misae Kinoshita (24 at the time of the bombing, 81 when she drew this picture) Explanation in picture In what is now Peace Park, there were many large water tanks for fighting fires. To escape the ferocious flames, people with nowhere else to run jumped into them. They were red and floating as if they'd been boiled. Some were still faintly foaming at the mouth. |
