Description I was a mobilized student on duty at the Second General Army Headquarters when the A-bomb detonated. In hopes of finding some signs of my family amidst the fire-ravaged ruins and smouldering embers, I headed towards our house in the center of the city. When I finally struggled my way to the foot of the Shinbashi Bridge, I found that the center part had burnt down but if I had been able to cross it, I would have discovered that our house, which was right on the other side, was gone and the fire-devasted ruins spreading out forever in the distance. Feeling despair, I cried voicelessly with another classmate. I had left my house on the morning of the August 6 as I normally did but I would never be able to meet my mother, father, or two younger sisters ever again.
