Description Roaring flames showered one house after another with sparks before devouring them. The force was astonishing. People who had been at the riverside felt the danger and fled to the middle of the river. A paint factory exploded with a huge sound that “shook heaven and earth.” Black smoke rose high into the sky, and flames blasted heat, roiling crazily into black, orange, yellow, red, and blue.
