Description | Countless corpses floating, people jumping into the river -at Hijiyama Bridge 1,700 m from the hypocenter, Hijiyama Bridge August 6, 1945 Hiroshi Onishi (12 at the time of the bombing, 69 when he draw this picture) Explanation in picture The east railing of Hijiyama Bridge was partially knocked off. Countless corpses floated in the river. One after another, people burned over their whole bodies jumped off the bridge seeking water. I was asked to hold a futon (bedding) brought by a neighbor woman, but the blood running from my head into my eyes blinded me and the futon slipped from my hands. |
