| Description | My first night sleeping outside August 6, 1945, night Takeshi Yashima (16 at time of bombing, 73 at time of drawing) [Notes from the artist] We ended up going to my maternal grandparents' home. My grandfather made a bed for us in a nearby field by speading out a straw mat, laying out some bedding, and putting up a mosquito net. It was my first time sleeping outside. The night sky was dyed red by the fires still raging in the west. |
