I was 1.5 km from the hypocenter waiting to start building demolition work. There were 70 third-year students (14 years olds) from the First Hiroshima Prefectural Junior High School, lined up listening to work precautions. Explosion! Then it felt like I was being cast into a giant blast furnace. I crouched down instantly, burns already covering my face, hands, neck, and feet, my skin sagging.
