Description The students had been cleaning up debris from building demolition. The skin on their heads had fallen off with their hair, and the skin on their bodies was gone as well. Because their eyelids were swollen and distorted, they walked with their heads thrown back so they could see from eyes as narrow as threads. They held up their burned hands in front of their faces. They kept their fingers a little apart, so that the skinless fingers would not touch each other. Dozens of boys and girls ran toward us over the burnt asphalt, moaning, “Ohhhn ohhhn,” as blood dripped from their swollen mouths. They say that a person whose skin cannot breathe will die―these students were dying while running.
