Description | Piercing ray of light 2,200 m from the hypocenter, Ushita-machi (now, Ushita-minami 1-chome) August 6, 1945, 8:15 a.m. Rikuo Fukamachi (13 at the time of the bombing, 70 when he drew this picture) Artist's explanation Again that day, the strong mid-summer sun was shining early, glaring brightly off the ground. A second year student in junior high school, I was still at home because we were allowed to get to work at the military factory later than usual. Suddenly, a blinding light pierced the space around me like an arrow. I was about to leave the house, when I was blown against the wall, along with everything in the house. Then I was buried under rubble. |
