Description | Thirst lured them to the pond, which became their final resting place 1,300m from the hypocenter Shukkeien Garden Kami-nagarekawa-cho (now, Nobori-cho) August 6-7, 1945 Drawn by Miyoshi Kokubo (age 17 at the time of the bombing) [Excerpt of artist comment] The pond at Asano’s Sentei Garden (today’s Shukkeien Garden) was encircled without a gap by victims with burns, who were drinking from the pond. The following day, I found the people exactly as they were on the previous day around the pond, but dead. The edge of the pond became their final resting place. |
