Description From about the evening of August 6, the injured people who had been taken in began to die. Since we didn't know when their families would come for them, we waited until the 7th. But because the remains became maggoty and emitted a terrible odor, the decision was made to cremate. Soldiers dug a large hole, stacked wood and other burnable items, poured oil on top, and lit the pile. A Buddhist monk soldier wearing clerical garments over his uniform recited a sutra.
