Even the wide streetcar street in Yokogawa had become a wasteland strewn with rubble and countless bodies. A man walked along carrying a blood-drenched dead boy of 12 or 13 on his back and leading by the hand a boy of four or five. The man repeatedly called the names of his relatives. So piteous was he, staggering along with his right eye bleeding copiously, his body stained with red blood, his voice all but dried up. A wretched scene! |
