Description | Finding my husband among countless dead Drawing - Text / Kozumi Kakui August 8, 1945 Approx. 1,250m from the hypocenter Kokutaiji-machi (now Kokutaiji-machi 2-chome) "I wanted to hide my eyes from the piles of corpses. Bodies with intestines bursting out under the scorching sun, some burnt so bad I couldn't tell if they were male or female, an infant whose wounded back was crawling with maggots. It was there I found my husband burned a reddish brown and lying with both arms raised toward the empty sky, revealing the terrible pain he must have experienced. I nearly fainted."
