| Description | Corpses of junior high students strewn around the burned ruins of the school Drawing / Kazumi Takeda August 8, 1945 Approx. 900m from the hypocenter Zakoba-cho (now Kokutaiji-machi) First year students of First Hiroshima Prefectural Junior High School were mobilized for building demolition in Zakoba-cho. Half of them were working on the south side of the school, the other half were waiting inside the school. Of about 300 students, nearly all were killed immediately or were never found. Very few survived. |
