Description | Burned by the flash, blown by the blast Drawing and text / Tomiko Ikeshoji (Kubo) August 6, 1945 Approx. 1,500m from the hypocenter Hiroshima Red Cross Hospital Senda-machi 1-chome "As I was giving my report, there was a flash of light as if we were inside a fire. 'What?!' I had time to say, then my body was lifted by the blast. At that point I lost consciousness. When I came to, I was in the basement holding a dead child I didn't know. I believe I must have run unconsciously to the shelter where we were trained to go to in the event of a bombing." Excerpt from explanation back side on drawing |
