Description | The burning city as seen from the air-raid shelter Drawing-Text / Midori Harada Evening, August 6, 1945 Approx. 2,000m from the hypocenter Minami-danbara-cho (now Danbara-minami) "When I looked in the direction of Taisho Bridge in Danbara toward Atago-machi, the entire city was already a sea of flames. Everyone was completely dazed. Somewhere, a child said, "Mommy, you can't put out the fire, can you." The mother replied, 'There's nothing we can do. Next time, let't live in some country without war. We can even stop being Japanese, right?'I was deeply moved by the truths spoken by that mother and child."
