Description | Trying to save my daughter, who was trapped under the roof of the fallen main hall. 1,700m from the hypocenter, Senritsuji Temple (Kyobashi-cho, Naka-ku) August 6, 1945 Hatsuko Tokan (36 at time of bombing, 66 at time of drawing) Explanation in picture Eiko was in the second grade at Danbara Elementary School. When the main hall of the temple fell, she was trapped under the roof. I hurried over, but it was obvious I could do nothing alone. I wanted to get some neighbors to help, but there was no one in sight I could ask. Everyone was trying desperately to escape. I could hear Eiko saying, "Mother, my arms, my legs…" |
