Description | Walking silently toward the suburbs, holding arms out in front 1,850m from the hypocenter / Futabanosato Morning, August 6, 1945 Seiichi Miyazawa (41 at the time of the bombing, 71 when he drew this picture) Explanation in picture Crowds of survivors fled in confusion toward Mt. Ushita. Terrible burns over their entire bodies. Clothes shredded. Covered with blood. The painful sight of a burning hell. Nigitsu Shrine engulfed in flames. Even the gods are powerless. Oh, where are my father and mother and our lovely child? What are they doing? They ended up among those who never returned. |
