Description | Groans in the darkness Drawing - Text / Sadako Doi August 6, 1945 Approx. 710m from the hypocenter Ebisu-cho "After awhile, I came to, my nostrils assaulted by smoldering dirt and sand and pebbles falling on my head. It was pitch dark. I mean I could see nothing at all. Faint sounds of groaning. A voice calling, Mother!"Feeling something warm and wet oozing down my neck, I thought I must be injured. I touched my neck-it felt slippery. Warm stuff flowed over my hand and kept running."Excerpt from her memoir Night on the Mountain"(Record of A-bomb Experiences, compiled by the Social Education Division, Social Welfare Breau, Hiroshima City) |
