Description | Will we win? August 11, 1945, around 11:00 am Torazuchi Matsunaga (18 at time of bombing, 47 at time of drawing) [Notes from the artist] I met two energetic children. I was amazed. I told them it was nice that they were so healthy and asked them where they were when the bomb was dropped. The older boy explained that they were in a crawlspace under an apartment building and gave a lonely laugh. The smaller boy asked me if our soldiers could still win even though they were burnt. Although I felt the uncertainty in my heart, I asserted passionately that they would bring us victory. I still feel responsible for those words. |
