Those alive invariably craved for water…. I poured the water from my flask into the mouth of the woman on my right, but she didn’t swallow. Her eyes were open but she was dead. Maggots had already infested her wounds. Most were left untreated, and on the brink of death. I wonder to this day whether they survived or died. I pray for the peaceful repose of their souls. |
