Description | The instant the baseball-sized fireball expanded, roof tiles fell on me. 1,200m from the hypocenter, Funairi-naka-machi(Naka-ku) August 6, 1945, around 8:15 a.m. Haruko Sasaki (13 at time of bombing, 42 at time of drawing) Explanation in picture The air-raid warning was cleared, but in the backyard of our house I heard the roar of a B29. "What?" I looked up at the sky but saw no B29. Looking all around, I saw something strange. A ball of fire like a baseball was gradually growing larger. About the time it was the size of a volleyball, something fell on my head. Only then did I think it was a bomb. I fell on the ground face down. |
