| Description | Every face was uniformly black as coal, beyond recognition even for their own parents if they had been there. And they had no words or strength to stop them. I was just overwhelmed by the gestures with which they pleaded for water. Black as coal, black as ink. It was like the motion of a rug-like body. When my eyes caught theirs, I became paralyzed. |
