Description The burned-down Fukushima Bridge
Early afternoon, August 6, 1945 1,640 m from the hypocenter Fukushima Bridge
Drawn by Kihara Michiko (15 at time of bombing, 44 at time of drawing)

It maybe because the fires arising from both sides of the river was so strong that they passed along the bottom of the wooden bridge, forming a fire column in the middle of the bridge, which burned the Fukushima Bridge down. On both sides of the tide-bound Fukushima River were sewages with little water. The sewer water turned dark-red with the blood of those who were flocking around searching for water.
This is a view that I saw from a lumber shop’s raft from upstream of the Fukushima-gawa River.
