Description | My daughter fled, covered in burns 1,750m from the hypocenter Near Minami-ohashi Bridge August 6, 1945 Drawn by Misako Murakami (age 45 at the time of the bombing) [Excerpt of artist comment] My daughter sustained burns all over her body while mobilized for demolition work at a site behind the city hall. She was completely naked among a fleeing crowd near Minami-ohashi Bridge, when a soldier gave her a scrap of curtain fabric he had picked up. Wearing the makeshift loin cloth, she managed to make it as far as Yoshijima Air Field. She could no longer see or move. Wrapped in a jacket some kind person had lent her, she kept calling “Mother, mother,” until she died at around 3 o’clock. |
