Description | Burning the body of a family member found on the riverbank 900 m from the hypocenter, near Yorozuyo Bridge August 7, 1945, about 2:00 p.m. Sueko Sumimoto (37 at the time of the bombing, 67 when she drew this picture) Explanation in picture We pulled bodies from the river, then landed the boat on the north bank. Some people were carrying the dead on stretchers. Some found relatives among the dead and cremated them. One woman who probably saw a loved one among the corpses in the river was stamping her feet and waving her hands and screaming loudly. People cremated the body of a child and then took the ashes home. I found my husband's body and got my brother to help me cremate him. |
