Explanation in picture
The Takajo-machi back street was still smoldering. Corpses lay here and there on the pavement. Among the hot ruins, volunteer units cremated the corpses. Burned brown and swollen, the corpses appeared neither male nor female. Even their relatives probably could not have identified them. People unable to outrun the flames were roasted as if in a covered pan. Everywhere, a plain of corpses.
