| Description | Around 4:00 p.m., August 6, 1945, the scene around the Yorozuyo Bridge Drawing and text / Iwakichi Kobayashi Around 4:00 p.m., August 6, 1945 Approx. 890m from the hypocenter Yorozuyo Bridge "I thought I saw a bright red sunset under the opposite embankment. A closer look revealed that the red I saw was injured, burned, naked people climbing up the bank from the water's edge. On the east end of the bridge lay a dead Korean man with a white beard about 20 centimeters long, his staff flung away, the top of his head facing west, his face looking south. Two Thai students had walked down the riverbank and were looking south under the bridge. Two naked young women were groaning under a tin sheet. In a puddle of water a little ways away lay six or seven men and women who were obviously in agony, groaning, 'Help! Danger!' Even though there was no danger of drowning in that puddle. A boat came carrying a hastily rigged flag on which something was written. Desperate voices continually called the name of a family member. One after another, such boats came downstream."
