| Description | Ten-sen coin Donated by Manami Yamamoto Approx. 1,400m from the hypocenter, Higashi-senda-machi The donor's great-grandmother, Shizuko Ikeuchi, was exposed at home in Senda-machi. She was pinned under her house when it fell. When the flames began licking nearby, she shouted at her children, "Run away!" The children pled with neighbors to help, but no one stopped. Just when it seemed hopeless, three soldiers happened by and pulled Shizuko out. This coin is thought to have been kept in the air-raid shelter in the yard. |
