Description | Kenichi Endo, the donor’s husband, was hospitalized in the Hiroshima Second Army Hospital at the time of the bombing. The brilliant flash of light coming through the window caused him to instantly cover his face with his hands resulting in burns on the back of his hands and the left side of his head. The fierce blast blew him with his bed through the air. Kenichi’s whole body was showered with glass splinters, hundreds of them piercing him. Four or five days later, he was transferred to the Tojo Branch of the Hiroshima Second Army Hospital in Tojo-cho of Hiba-gun. Two weeks later he began to suffer hair loss, purpura and bleeding gums. He came close to death, but started to improve about the middle of September. He was released from the hospital on September 26 and returned to his home in Niigata City. A great number of people died in the Tojo Branch hospital. Only a handful lived to be released. |
