Description | Yoshie Takayama (then, 20) was exposed at work in Hiroshima City Hall. She fled in terror, bleeding from the left side of her face and her shoulder. While fleeing, she hurried past people crying and calling for help. Arriving at a clinic, she found it full of horribly burned patients and corpses. She was eventually able to return home, but her father Naoichi (then, 52), sister Yoshimi (then, 18), and brother Masaichi (then, 15) were all killed by the bomb (three of her six family members). Yoshie underwent surgery in July 1994, 49 years after the bombing, and this glass fragment was removed from the muscles in her neck. Two fragments remain in her body. |
