Description | Glass fragment removed from a person's body Donation / Eiko Higashi Approx. 1,700m from the hypocenter Funairi-saiwai-cho Eiko Inoue (then, 12), a first-year student at Shintoku Girls High School, was exposed at home, her body pierced by countless glass fragments. She lost consciousness and was taken to a relief station in the city but was unable to receive adequate care. She was then taken to a relative's home in Matsuyama where she underwent surgery. This fragment was surgically extracted in 1981, 36 years after the bombing. Eiko's father, who was exposed with her at home, her older sister, who encountered the bombing on the way to work, and her younger brother, who was playing at a neighbor's house, all disappeared without a trace. |
