Yoshio Hamada (26) was exposed in his barracks. He was struck by the heat ray just he put his hand on the windowsill. The middle and fourth fingers on his left hand that had been outside the window began to burn. They were burned so badly the skin and nails were hanging off. Soon after the bombing, a rod-like black nail began growing straight out of the skin on the top center part of both fingers. The black nail contained blood vessels, not found in a normal nail. Yoshio’s fingers grew these strange nails until his death. |
