| Description | Bottle of Eye Drops and Compact Donated by Mihoka Ishii Sayoko Uchida (14) was exposed to the bombing on her way to work at an eye clinic in Ote-machi. She managed to reach a prefectural hospital with her face completely swollen and her skin hanging down. Her hair was frizzled, with some of it plastered against her skin. She was taken home by her family on the 8th, but died on the 19th. Testimony by Her Elder Sister Mihoka Sayoko asked our mother, “I want to look in a mirror,” but our mother did not allow her to do so. Mother told me that she felt so sorry for her that she could not give her a mirror. Since Sayoko said “I want to see the mountains,” we dragged her futon with her on it to the veranda. She said, “Beautiful mountains.” On the following day, she died. Actually, no mountains were seen from the veranda. Immediately before her final moments, the damage to her face had slightly healed, which was the only solace given to us. The bottle of eye drops was given at her workplace. Inside the compact was makeup powder. |
