Dug from the ruins of Nobori-cho Elementary School in September 1981. Jitsuto Chakihara (then, 31) was exposed to the atomic bomb while taking a nap on the second floor of Nobori-cho Elementary School where he was stationed. He was trapped when the building fell but managed to dig his way out. The school was totally crushed and burned, and nearly all of its 300 occupants died. Jitsuto developed the symptoms of acute radiation poisoning (hair loss, pupura) and hovered between life and death. |
