Description Weeping willows were planted along roadsides in Hiroshima City before the war. This one survived the bombing because it was shielded by a building. In January 2006, it was determined that the tree was dying; it was cut down as a safety precaution on February 9. Plants and trees that grew again after the bombing gave hope to the people of the devastated city.
