Donator Shigeko Sasaki's younger brother Tetsuji Taniguchi (then,29) was exposed at the Chugoku Military District Headquarters in Moto-machi. Shigeko and other family members searched for him but never got a clue about where he mignt have been. On August 6, their father, Shuichi, found this sword under the ruins of Tetsuji's house, and kept it as a keepsake. His wife Natsue (then,24), who was pregnant at the time, was exposed at home. Shuichi found her there, where she was awaiting her husband's return. She died in October, shortly before the baby was due. |
